Dear friend,

I want to tell you something about a guide I wrote.

Not what is in it. Not why I think it is important. Something more specific than that.

I want to tell you exactly who I wrote it for. Because I have been with the Church for fifty years and I have learned that the most important thing you can do when you have something to give is make sure it reaches the right person. Not everyone. The specific person it was made for.

So let me describe that person. And you can decide if it is you.

The person I wrote They Tried To Stop Him for is someone who has been watching what is happening to Donald Trump for years and cannot fully explain what they are seeing.

Not cannot explain it politically. They understand the politics. They have watched the news. They know the charges and the trials and the impeachments and the assassination attempt and the election and everything that has followed it.

What they cannot explain is why none of it has worked.

They watch attempt after attempt fail. They watch things that should have ended his career not end it. They watch him survive things that would have destroyed any other person in public life and keep standing. And somewhere underneath the political explanation — underneath the talk of base support and media coverage and legal strategy — there is a question they have not been able to answer.

Why is he still there?

Not how. Why.

The person I wrote this for has a feeling they cannot quite name.

It is not hope exactly. Hope is something you feel when you do not know the outcome and you want it to go a certain way. This is something more specific than hope. It is closer to recognition. The feeling of watching something unfold and sensing — not thinking, sensing — that you have seen the shape of this before somewhere. That this is not random. That there is a pattern underneath what looks like chaos.

They have felt that feeling for years. They have not had language for it. When they try to describe it to the people around them it comes out sounding either too political or too mystical and neither version captures what they are actually trying to say.

They are looking for someone to give them the language.

The person I wrote this for reads their Bible.

Not perfectly. Not every day without fail. But consistently enough that when something happens in the world their mind goes to Scripture before it goes to the news. They have a habit of asking what does this remind me of in the Book before they ask what does the cable news host think about it.

And that habit has been producing a specific, persistent, low level feeling for years.

The feeling that what they are reading in Scripture and what they are watching in the world are describing the same thing. That the patterns are too precise to be coincidental. That someone who has read this Book carefully enough should be able to connect what is happening now to what the prophets described then.

But they have not found anyone who has done that work carefully and plainly and without either sensationalising it or softening it into meaninglessness.

They are looking for that work.

The person I wrote this for is tired.

Not physically. Spiritually. The specific exhaustion that comes from carrying something heavy for a long time without anyone to carry it with. From praying for their country day after day and not being able to see whether any of it is reaching anyone. From watching the people around them either panic or go numb and finding neither response available to themselves because they cannot stop paying attention and they cannot stop caring.

They are not looking for comfort exactly. Comfort that does not connect to truth does not stay. They are looking for something more durable than comfort. They are looking for understanding. The kind that comes from seeing the full picture rather than just the piece they have been staring at.

They believe the full picture is in Scripture. They just have not found anyone who has laid it out clearly enough.

The person I wrote this for already believes most of what is in the guide.

They believe God is at work in what they are watching. They believe the opposition is not random. They believe the survival has a name in Scripture. They believe the man at the centre of all of this is there for a reason that goes beyond politics.

They just cannot prove it. They cannot point to chapter and verse and say here. This is what I am watching. This is where it is described. This is why I believe what I believe.

They have felt things they could not demonstrate. They have held convictions they could not defend. They have had arguments at dinner tables and family gatherings where they knew they were right and could not quite say why in a way that satisfied anyone including themselves.

They are looking for the words.

That is who I wrote They Tried To Stop Him: What The Bible Says About Donald Trump for.

Not everyone. That specific person.

If you read that description and felt something shift — if any part of it named something you have been carrying without being able to name it yourself — then I wrote it for you.

It is the most direct thing I have written in fifty years with the Church. No qualifications. No careful language designed to offend no one. Just the Biblical case made plainly for what I believe God is doing in this country right now, through this specific man, at this specific moment in history.

Many of you have written to me after reading it saying the same thing. That it gave them language for something they already believed. That they felt something settle that had been unsettled for years. That they finally had the words for the thing they had been trying to say at dinner tables and family gatherings and conversations with people who did not understand why they believed what they believed.

That is what it is designed to do. Not to convince skeptics. To give the already-convinced the words they have been looking for.

If that is you — and I believe it is, or you would not still be reading this — you can find it by clicking on the image below:

Read it this week. I believe it will give you something you have been looking for for a long time.

God bless you, friend. I am glad you are here.

With you in prayer always,
Father Thomas

This week I want you to do one thing.

Just one.

Not because I am asking you to buy something. Because I spent fifty years with the Church and I wrote the most honest thing I know how to write and I believe the person I described tonight needs it in their hands before the week is out.

That is all.

If you want to go deeper on anything Father Thomas has written, everything is available at fatherthomasletters.com/products — including The Signs Are Here, which maps today's headlines directly against the specific passages that described them, and the Father Thomas Prayer Card Collection, which many of you have told me you return to every morning. Take a look when you have a moment.
