Dear friend,
I want to tell you something I have been sitting with for a while now.
I read every letter you send me. Every comment. Every reply. I have been doing that since the first week I started writing to you and I have not stopped. Some weeks there are more than I can answer individually. But I read every single one.
And I have started to notice something.
There is a type of person who finds their way to these letters. Not just any type. A very specific type. And the more letters I read the clearer the picture becomes.
I want to tell you what I see. Because I think most of you have never had anyone describe you back to yourselves. And I think you need to hear it.
The person who writes to me is almost never someone who stumbled here by accident.
They found Father Thomas because something was missing. Not something they could name easily. Not something they could explain to the people around them without getting a look that made them wish they had stayed quiet. Just a feeling. A persistent, low level feeling that the world had moved in a direction they did not follow and that somewhere, something true was still being said, and they had not found it yet.
And then they found it here. Or they felt like they did. And they stayed.
The person who writes to me is paying attention when most people around them have stopped.
They watch the news and they see things other people do not see. Patterns. Connections. The feeling that what is happening is not random, that there is a shape to it, that somewhere underneath the chaos something deliberate is moving. They have tried to say this to people they love and been told they are reading too much into things. They have learned to keep it mostly to themselves.
But they have not stopped seeing it.
They see it clearly. They just have nobody to see it with.
The person who writes to me carries something most people would call worry but that is actually something more specific than that.
It is not worry about their own life. They have mostly made their peace with their own life. It is worry about what comes next. About their children and their grandchildren and the country those children are going to inherit. About whether the things that held this nation together for two hundred and fifty years are going to hold for another generation.
They pray about it. More than they tell anyone. In the quiet of the morning before anyone else is awake. In the car on the way home from somewhere when the radio gets too loud and they turn it off and just drive in silence for a while.
They are not hopeless. But they are tired. And they are looking for someone who will tell them the truth about what is happening without either panicking or pretending.
The person who writes to me is more faithful than they give themselves credit for.
They have stayed. That is the thing I keep coming back to when I read their letters. They have stayed. Through the years when the Church went quiet on the things they cared about. Through the family dinners that turned into arguments. Through the loneliness of believing something that the people around them have decided is embarrassing. Through everything.
They are still here. Still reading. Still praying. Still showing up.
That is not a small thing. That is one of the most important things a person can do.
I want to tell you why I am describing this so carefully tonight.
Because I want you to understand something about yourself that you may not have been told recently.
You are not behind. You are not naive. You are not on the wrong side of history.
You are awake in a world that has gone to sleep. And the loneliness of that — the specific loneliness of seeing clearly when the people around you have stopped looking — is real. I know it is real because you keep telling me about it in your letters. Not always directly. But it is there underneath almost everything you write.
I want to name it tonight because I think naming it matters.
You are not crazy. You are early. And the difference between those two things is everything.
The person I am describing is also, almost without exception, the person who most needs to read They Tried To Stop Him: What The Bible Says About Donald Trump.
Not because of the politics. Because of the pattern.
The pattern I trace in that guide is the same pattern that has always applied to the people I just described. The ones who see things before others do. The ones who pay attention when the people around them have stopped. The ones who carry a weight they cannot fully explain to anyone who has not felt it themselves.
The men in Scripture who fit that description — Joseph, Moses, Daniel, Paul — were not popular in their time. They were often alone in what they saw. They were told they were wrong, or crazy, or reading too much into things.
And then the thing they saw arrived. And everyone else finally understood what they had been seeing the whole time.
That guide is for the person I just described. It is for you. And if you have not read it yet I want you to read it this weekend. You can find it by clicking the image below

I want to close with something simple.
If you recognized yourself in what I wrote tonight — in the watching and the praying and the carrying and the staying — I want you to know something.
I see you.
Not vaguely. Not as one of thousands of people I write to every week. As a specific, real, irreplaceable person who has been faithful in ways that nobody has properly thanked you for.
I am thanking you tonight.
Keep going. Keep praying. Keep paying attention. The people who stayed awake when everyone else went to sleep are the ones who are ready when the moment finally arrives.
And I believe the moment is closer than most people think.
God bless you, friend. Have a peaceful weekend. You have earned it.
With you in prayer,
Father Thomas
This weekend I want you to do two things:
One. Read this letter again. Slowly. And when you get to the part that describes you most precisely — stop there. Sit with it for a moment. Let someone finally see you the way you actually are rather than the way you present yourself to the people who would not understand.
Two. Read They Tried To Stop Him this weekend: https://fatherthomasletters.com/products/they-tried-to-stop-him-what-the-bible-says-about-donald-trump
I wrote it for the person I described tonight. I believe it will give you the language for something you have been seeing for a long time but have not been able to fully say.
